We are looking for a freelance data journalist (f/m/d) for the Design unit in Bonn or Berlin as of January 1, 2021 or as soon as possible.
develop, research and sketch story own data-driven story ideas
support editorial teams in developing and executing data-driven story ideas
gather, clean, analyze and visualize data
collaborate with reporters and editors to craft the final story
bulletproof other journalists' data-related work
teach other journalists data journalism basics
completed university studies or a comparable education
at least three years experience in journalism
experience in data cleaning with RegEx and OpenRefine
experience in data cleaning and analysing in Python or R
experience with collaborating via Git
experience with HTML and CSS or motion graphics would be a plus
ability to tell light and entertaining stories as well as explain complex topics
ability to work independently as well as in a team
high capacity for creativity and flexibility
fluency in English, proficiency in German; other languages are a plus
working in an international environment
